A first match encounter against Lanarkshire whose side were littered with Scottish International players went to the final mixed to decide the winner. First mixed pairing of Jim Teale (Watford) & Jo Goode (Tewin) gave little away to Scottish number one Craig Goddard and his partner Julie Boyd winning 21-7, 21-15 to give Herts the narrowest of wins 8-7.
Wiltshire followed and Herts traditional slow start continued with Jon Austin (Redbourn) & David Westwood (Flamstead) both going down in the 3rd game of each match 21-16. However fortune reversed itself and no other match was lost giving a comfortable 13-2 win.
The end of the days play and the league situation looked good with just one league point, the equivalent of six matches required to secure promotion the following morning against Kent.
Play continued in its usual style losing both men’s singles. The ladies responded in no time at all with straight game wins for Rachel Howard (Hertford) & Helena Lewczynska (Radlett). The ladies continued the entire match in the same vain of form with a clean sweep in the level doubles. The men were equally as impressive winning three out of four level doubles. The points were now secure and the three mixed pairs round the tie off with fine wins to give a 12-3 winning margin. Lanarkshire finished in second place to also move in to Premier B next season.
