Co-ordinating body for sport in Herts: Herts Sports Partnership HSP is the umbrella organisation for sport in Hertfordshire. It represents grass roots sport, clubs, coaches, colleges, sports centres, teachers, etc. There are 4 meetings of the main group each year with several working groups. It is entirely democratic with one member one vote. Your club would be most welcome. On the website is a mass of information and courses (e.g. for coaches and clubs). Grand Opening Ceremony at New Badminton Development Centre, John F Kennedy Roman Catholic School, Hemel Hempstead
The new sports centre, dedicated to badminton during community use, had its formal but exciting opening on Wednesday 23rd September. Headteacher Bernadette Jenkins opened the ceremony and Gail Emms, MBE, (above) provided the evening's Guest of Honour, Opening Ceremony address. HBA Chairman, Malcolm Fraser, MCed the demonstration matches which were provided by junior and senior county squads and Gadebridge Juniors. Coaching by Herts coaches were ably assisted by Gail - many participants just didn't want to go home! Click here for more photos. See full write-up in next HBA Newsletter in October.
Area League Challenge Results Sunday 20th at HSV. North Herts came top on 13 points, followed by the county under 18's on 11, then Hertford Area on 10 points and South West Herts on 2 points. Click here for full results. Hope everyone enjoyed the day. 6 best of 3 games to 21 points all should have been exhausted at the end. A massive response to the Open Tournament held on 5&6th September!
Victor Lieuw (serving) and partner win the mens doubles Over 100 entries for the Mens Singles; 37 for the Ladies Singles; 40 each for the Mixed and Mens Doubles, and 26 for the Ladies Doubles. There had been a good entry from Herts players and some degree of success. A full report will appear in the HBA Newsletter in early October.
No Increase in Membership fees for 2009-10 Herts Badminton Association and BADMINTON England agreed at their respective AGMs in June to freeze membership fees at last year's amounts. See HBA Membership & Benefits webpage. A new BE database has been purchased and configured for the coming season that is intended to make membership easier to manage by Club Organisers. BE is contacting club organisers directly to ensure effective transfer.

The Challenger Circuit now has eight tournaments (in comparison to last year’s seven), the Satellite Circuit has an additional two, and the Orbital Circuit has increased by four tournaments, making the Orbital Circuit a massive 16 event Circuit. By competing in these three different Circuits throughout the year, players will accrue Circuit Points. The players and pairs with the highest scoring Circuit Points will be invited to compete at the Circuit Finals at the end of the season. They will be held at the National Badminton Centre, Milton Keynes which will be held on 29th May 2010.'
