Individual
Winners of HSBA 2002 Closed Tournaments
Three hundred and sixty seven junior players
competed in the HSBA tournaments this season (two more than last season!) As
usual there were more boys than girls. Numbers in each tournament were similar
to last year, although the U11 boys singles had fewer players, but there were
more U1O girls than previously (an encouraging sign). The ‘B’ singles and the
U11 doubles made up the busiest day, but ran so well that we all went home
earlier than expected. The U1O tournaments, combined with the ‘A’ singles went
on much longer than expected and gave the organisers a very long day.

Many thanks to all those who helped to ensure that the tournaments ran smoothly, particularly Marion and Duncan Conway, Malcolm, Ceri and Shân Lumb, Pippa Gomar and Angela Blowers. Thanks also to all those who helped with signing In players and putting up the second set of scores - a particular mention to Rhian Blowers, Gareth Lumb, Rachel and Hannah Warnes for helping out with this job. The raffle sellers did their usual efficient job - thanks to them and to Christine Comras and Charity Warnes for organising them.
SENIOR SCHOOLS
COMPETITION
Thirty three Senior/Middle School affiliated
for the 2001/2002 season. Players from 23 of these schools took part in the
tournaments - 5 more than last season. Points between 2nd, 3rd and 4th places
were close in almost every category, with Chancellor’s U13 girls missing 3rd
place by just 4 points. There was no clean sweep this year, but Roundwood Park
won both the U18 and U15 boys age groups and St Albans High School for Girls
won the U15 girls and U13 girls age groups. Trophies and certificates have been
sent to the schools via pupil post’ which usually works extremely efficiently.
